“The act of doing graffiti, performance art done by and for the artist’s personal satisfaction, is graffiti in it’s truest form. The paint on the wall is purely an after-effect depicting the hard-core struggle to be free”.
His whole life he’s been busy drawing and painting. He started copying easy cartoons like Donald Duck but pretty soon developed his own style. Back in 1984 he discovered this new art form called Graffiti. On a random Thursday night back in 1985, at the parking lot behind the AH in Almelo, the spray-paint can he and a friend stole earlier that day got jammed. So the guys went back to the store, telling the store manager they lost the receipt of their broken can and begging for a new one. The spray-can got replaced, yeeehaaah, and they finished their first piece ever, called “BASIC”, with dark brown fill in, muhahaha! But hey, back then you simply didn’t have the luxury to choose between 255 Montana Gold Colors.
In 1992, he went to the Art Academy in Antwerp (Belgium) where he studied photography whilst at the same time enjoying the party and graffiti scene. After his academic Belgian journey he returned to Holland and lived in The Hague. He worked as a web master/designer for the Dutch government (LEI), gave graffiti workshops for kids in the hood and tought both students and teachers at the TU in Delft. Next to that he started working on festival decorations and making graffiti art for the music industry. He created several pieces for Rene Amesz’s releases on Little Mountain Recordings. Before leaving The Hague to live in Amsterdam, where he’s based nowadays, he designed stuff for Tagger bags.
Now SKET185 is running his own creative company TWISTED TOFU which is based in Amsterdam. Along the way he developed one of his current shieldmarks, Bonki. Bonki is the eye catcher of all upcoming Randomtik singles leading into release of their Kontramaid album.
